Solar sailing was once just thought of as a concept only in science documentaries. Now scientists are one step closer to making it a feasable way of traversing through space. The world’s first exclusive solar sail spacecraft, IKAROS, is pioneering the field using advance LCDs to steer itself across our solar system. The LCDs can be turn on or off to reflect solar radiation, which acts as the propulsion, enabling it to move and turn slowly. Although it is nowhere near as fast as traditional thruster based spacecraft, it is an exciting time for space exploration nonetheless.click
